RE: How to test a couple of 6v batteries

Don't just put a load on and "walk away". Lead acid batteries will be permanently damaged if discharged completely. Don't draw thw battery down more than 50%. Load testers are pretty useless for testing deep cycle batteries. They show if a battery is capable of starting a car, but not the longevity of a load over time. In fact, you can actually damage a deep cycle battery with a load tester if too much amperage is drawn. how do you know when you have drawn a battery down 50% do you use voltage reading.. The question I originally asked almost is mute since yesterday I got a free electric golf cart and was able to by the 2 month old batteries 6 for $80.00 The trailer gets the new batteries 2 for back up and 2 for my boys trailer. will sell of the golf cart without the batteries for cheap. I am still very interested in battery maintenance and testing. also picked up some large very large diesel start batteries 1.5 times the size of normal big rig batteries. They seem perfect from the get go not sure what I will be doing with them. All of a sudden it looks like a battery factory at my house. keep the info coming for all that can use this information. thanks ED

How to test a couple of 6v batteries

I would like to test a couple of 6 volt batteries. I have a load tester for 250 and one that will test for over 600 amp load but that will not let me know how these will work for a trailer tongue application. I want them to work for a low amp long draw time. Would I just put a 10 amp load and walk away and see how long they hold out???? any suggestions Ed

RE: Starting cold diesel engine?

My dodge cummins has an intake heater not a glow plug and will start with or with out it warmed up but better to wait the few seconds till the WAIT light goes out and it will cycle several times after start up, you will see the lights dim. ED not sure what engine you have. In cold weather if the MH is in storage there is no reason to start it unless you plan on driving it for 14-20 miles to lube all of the suspension parts, axles bearings. etc. the Cummins manual does not running the engine just to let it idle. I suggest you find the Engine Owners Manual and read the do's and don'ts to educate yourself on operation and maintenance. To extend the slide there is no reason to run the engine. In cold weather it is also recommended you have a full tank of diesel fuel to avoid condensation build up in the tank, and most will add a fuel stabilizer for the diesel fuel for winter. I do not have any glow lights on my I.P. but have a green Wait that lights up, which you should wait until it goes out to crank the engine. This operates like a glow light. The low air pressure light will come on anytime the pressure in the air bags is low and you should wait till it builds up pressure before moving the MH. Best advice is to find the Owners manual for the Engine and anything else on the MH and read all of the manuals thoroughly before operating.

RE: Axel flip on 19ft TT

My trailer is longer but it was the first thing I did after getting it home. The friend I got it from was telling of horror stories at some sites not being able to use the dump or the campsites sewer drain. been great had to buy four new axle spring mounts and took a while to find a decent price for them. go for it Ed

RE: Need relay amp size for battery isolator

If I'm not mistaken those are car starter relays that are not intended for full time activation. That's why they say they get hot. Unless I'm missing something I don't understand why they're selling them for that purpose. Thanks for looking tho. Moon they make two kind intermintent and continuous duty. Ed

RE: Scan Guage II cause (s) tranny fault?

I really enjoy my scan guage, but it will not always clear codes on my 98.5 Dodge diesel. I called them and they where unable to give me a reason. works great on my boys 2000 dodge diesel and other vehicles. So I am keeping it because I like all the other features/ Ed

RE: Furnace noise in a springdale

mine was doing the same thing. I pulled the whole box out and it still seemed almost impossible to disassemble to take the motor out, so I turned and twisted it in different direction to drop oil into the bearings and reassembled it tested ok and last camp trip I forgot it had a problem worked great. Not saying this is any type of permanent fix, but worked for me so far. ED

RE: Electric cooling rad fan verse a clutch fan

When I bought my MH, it had a dual electric fan set-up with the factory clutch fan. The rig ran hot. I found that the clutch fan was not functioning so I was only running on electric fans. I put in a new fan clutch and the rig runs cool. I replaced the clutch fan 1ton dealer only one and the truck ran cool after years of fighting over heating. I have electrics on my street rod works great but a good factory set up with the dealer clutch fan not a cheapo replacement is the best. I am not one for dealer replacement parts as a rule on this one make the exception Ed

RE: Vector/B&D vs Schumacher Chargers

I had one go bad BUT it was given to me, the second one is I believe 2/10/25 and has performed well so far use for $15. BUT if you loose power the little fan in the unit will run till the battery is dead or near dead. I believe it need 4 volt to operated the charging. Ed

RE: Knock Sensor

The knock sensor on my boys 2000 silverado was under the intake manifold and water and leaves can collect and rust out the sensor. it was needed to build up a silicone dam to prevent the water from puddling on the sensor. and the torque was somewhere near 25INCH POUNDS too much will distort them and they do not work correctly. thats all I know and do know it was a heck of a job to install.

RE: trickle charging 2 truck batteries

my experience if they are totally dead I usually need to put my 10/25/250amp boost charger on them for a full boost to get them started charging and some newer fancy chargers will not start a charge without 4-6volt min. left in the battery. just my experience. Ed
